Screenshot vs. Visual History
A screenshot preserves one view. Visual History preserves the sequence, context, and decisions behind how a Page evolves.
A screenshot answers a useful question: what did this Page look like at one moment?
That answer matters. Screenshots help teams document a review, save a reference, or explain a bug. They are fast, portable, and easy to share.
But a screenshot is a single frame. It does not explain what came before, what changed afterward, or why the change mattered.
A screenshot is an artifact
When a Page changes, a screenshot can preserve the visible surface. It may show the headline, navigation, pricing table, or layout that existed on a specific date.
What it usually does not preserve is the relationship to other versions. A file named homepage-final.png says very little six months later. Without a date, URL, or context, the image becomes an isolated artifact.
That is not a failure of screenshots. It is simply their boundary.
Visual History is a sequence
Visual History connects individual Moments into a Timeline. Each Capture preserves a new Moment for the same Page. Over time, the sequence becomes more useful than any single image.
You can see when a Page changed its positioning, when a pricing section moved, or when a new product direction appeared. The value comes from the relationship between Moments.

Use both, for different jobs
Screenshots remain valuable. Use one when you need a quick visual reference or a lightweight handoff. Use a Timeline when you need to understand how a Page evolved.
The distinction is simple: a Screenshot shows the visible surface of a Moment. Visual History gives that Moment a place in time.
